If you upgraded your computer to Vista or you are moving files to your Vista computer you may need to Take Ownership of those files if you get an “access denied” message when you try to open or change the properties of a folder or file that was created by a different user.
In windows Vista the Default folders for My computer, My Pictures, My Documents, My Music are now called Computer, Pictures, Music and Documents and are located at C:Usersyour user namePictures,Documents and so on, But if you like to keep these files in a different location or hard drive ( I keep my Data on a separate drive to make backups easier.) You can easily change the default location for these folders.
As you are probably aware of, whenever you create a shortcut on your desktop the word “shortcut” is always included in the name, then you need to go thru an extra step to rename the icon. Here’s a way to prevent the “shortcut” from appearing in the name.

Instead of manually checking the Event viewer to see if Vista encountered any problems, how about setting it up to Email you them instead. There are many different events you can choose to monitor but I only setup the Security section. (Be careful what you setup you don’t want to spam yourself.)
