Disable the Startup Sound in Vista

When Vista starts up you hear the lovely startup sound, but what if you’re in a situation where you would rather not hear it like a classroom or maybe someone near you is sleeping and you don’t want to bother them. Sure you could just turn down or mute the volume but its easy to forget to do it then you get a smack from your significant other if you wake them up. Here’s how to avoid a black & blue mark.

  1. Click the Start Orb > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound.
  2. In the Sound field choose Change system sounds.
  3. In the Sounds tab Remove the check mark next to Play Windows Startup Sound.
