In order to play VOB files in WMC you need to link the IFO file to the movie in Movie Collector, NOT the VOB file. For example..

Rip DVD to folder will give you the AUDIO_TS and the VIDEO_TS.
In the VIDEO_TS you will have files such as (this is just an example your files may be a little different)

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB

The VIDEO_TS.IFO is the file that needs to be linked to th title in Movie Collector. Once you do the search and get the title just right click the title and click edit movie. A box will pop up and you go to the last tab on the top labeled links. The lower box will have some buttons one of which is "Add Movie File" next to local. Find your movie folder and select the VIDEO_TS.IFO Then just click on the WMC button to see and play your movie.

Note that the play option in WMC is in the upper right hand corner not the actual play button.

This is the only way I know how to make the movie play.

I Rip only the movie no menu's using the same setup as listed above in the origional post and it works very nicely.

Great post. Will a MCE such as Xbox 360 see "Movie Collector" under program library? I am using Windows 7 and would like to play vob's as opposed to converting to mpgs etc

@hj3lmen, If you're using the Movie Collector software from the above link, To play your movies open MCE go to the Program Library > Movie Collector, or from inside the Movie collector software click the Start Media Center Icon. If you're not using the Movie collector software I highly recommend it, and they give you a free trial.

That is the only reliable way I've found to play VOB files in Media Center.

I have tryed the regedit configuration where you have to change Play to Gallery, and so on. And I stille have the same error..
How are your managing or how are you going around that problem. ?

@ Tarrant1701 I tried the MyMovies software about 8 months ago and was somewhat under whelmed by it. I liked the fact you could have a main server running on one computer and have different client computers connect to it, but I didn't care for the user interface when adding movies or the media center interface. I think I tried version 2.3 It also seemed a little buggy, It looks like they are up to version 2.45 now so it may have gotten better. In all honesty I don't think I gave it a long enough test, but the Movie Collector software was working great and the thought of typing in over 500 movies I had at the time just seemed like too much work. If you have any experience with the new version and would like to write a review of it I'll gladly add it to this post.
