Add 3D Pinball To Windows Vista

If you loved to play 3D Pinball on your XP computer you know by now that Microsoft didn’t include it in Vista for some strange reason. Well there’s good news it works just fine in Vista and it’s not hard to get it working as long as you have or know someone with a XP computer, and a way to transfer some files, a USB thumb drive or burning a cd works or zip it up and Email it to yourself. For windows 8 instructions follow the link below.

UPDATE 07/31/09 If you need the Pinball files I setup a download site at MediaFire here http://www.mediafire.com/?ymvywizjwtd

Here’s how to get it working:

  1. On a Windows XP computer, click the My computer icon and navigate to C:Program FilesWindows NT folder.(you may need to click show the contents of this folder to gain access)
  2. Copy the folder called Pinball to USB thumb drive or a cd or zip it up and Email it to yourself.
  3. On your Vista Computer logon as an administrator, then insert your device that has the folder Pinball on it. Copy the folder Pinball to C:Program FilesMicrosoft Games. You will need to deal with the User Account Control a few times.
  4. Now open the Pinball folder at C:Program FilesMicrosoft Games and locate the file called pinball.exe
  5. Right click the Pinball.exe file and drag it to the Games folder in the Start menu and choose copy here, and you’re done.

Now when you want to play 3D Pinball just click Start > Games > Pinball.

Thanks for the info. When I Googled “Pinball for Vista” your’s was the first site I tried.

Quite a few years ago my wife and I played “Space Pinball” on, I believe, a Windows 95 machine. I was dissappointed with each version of Windows that didn’t have it and so glad when it was on my XP machine.

We now have two Vista laptops and with your download we have something to do when the internet is down. Last night we lost everything, cable, internet and phone when a storm took out Broadstripe. We ended up playing a dice game called Kismet. She beat me five out of six games.

I downloaded it, and everything went smoothly, until I tried playing it. Every time I try to to play it, it says,” WAVEMIX.INF is missing- it must be in file directory!”

@Ea, follow CJ’s advise from above and it will work.

For those of you who are getting the message saying that the WAVMIX.INF file is missing, you copied the PINBALL.EXE file. Since the application needs to be in the same folder as the files it needs to run properly, putting the file in a folder isolated from its buddies is going to confuse it. Quick and easy fix ? instead of clicking ?copy here? after dragging it with a right click to your start menu, click ?create shortcuts here?. This will, as the text says, create a shortcut in your start menu linking to the EXE file. This way, you can easily access it while it?s still with its buddies. Sorry if this seems choppy, I?m a horrible? story-teller.

I have been looking for a good pinball game for a long time- and am pleasantly suprised i found this site. it’s not a trial version either lmfao!

I’ve downloaded space cadet to my windows 7 machine from weebly.com and everything works except the sounds. I have even copied it from a xp machine and have the same problem. The music plays from the menu, but not the pinball sounds. When I go to the program files, I can click on the individual sound files and they will play. I’ve redownloaded it several times and always the same. Do you have any suggestions?
