Add 3D Pinball To Windows Vista
If you loved to play 3D Pinball on your XP computer you know by now that Microsoft didn’t include it in Vista for some strange reason. Well there’s good news it works just fine in Vista and it’s not hard to get it working as long as you have or know someone with a XP computer, and a way to transfer some files, a USB thumb drive or burning a cd works or zip it up and Email it to yourself.
UPDATE 10-12-08 If you need the Pinball files I setup a download site at Drop.io here http://drop.io/VistaRevisited
Here’s how to get it working:
- On a Windows XP computer, click the My computer icon and navigate to C:Program FilesWindows NT folder.(you may need to click show the contents of this folder to gain access)
- Copy the folder called Pinball to USB thumb drive or a cd or zip it up and Email it to yourself.
- On your Vista Computer logon as an administrator, then insert your device that has the folder Pinball on it. Copy the folder Pinball to C:Program FilesMicrosoft Games. You will need to deal with the User Account Control a few times.
- Now open the Pinball folder at C:Program FilesMicrosoft Games and locate the file called pinball.exe
- Right click the Pinball.exe file and drag it to the Games folder in the Start menu and choose copy here, and you’re done.
Now when you want to play 3D Pinball just click Start > Games > Pinball.
UPDATE 9-5-08 If you want really high scores check out how to Hack 3D Pinball right here.
UPDATE 10-12-08 If you need the Pinball files I setup a download site at Drop.io here http://drop.io/VistaRevisited

Hi! I followed the instructions to move Space Cadet Pinball folder from my XP pc to my Vista pc. When I click Pinball from my Vista Start menu, I get an error: “WAVEMIX.INF is missing - it must be in the pinball directory!”, although that file IS in the pinball directory. Has anyone come across this problem? Thanks! Chris

Hi Kevin, Thanks for checking into this. Just a note - my mom was working on a word document this morning when she told me there was something strange appearing on the screen…it was an icon of that WAVEMIX.INF file, as if it had been pasted onto her document. It freaked me out! I right-clicked it and deleted it from her document, but am very, very puzzled!! Chris

@Chris, Sorry I can’t recreate your problem, The only thing I can think to tell you is to delete all the files and retry everything.

Thanks Kevin - I’ll try that. The 2nd issue I mentioned doesn’t seem to be related to the pinball issue, althoughthe wavemix file was involved…I’m getting lots of text & files which have been previously cut/copied/pasted appearing randomly in Word docs. Strange! Might be the “trial” version of MS Office I’m using causing that… Again thanks for looking into the pinball issue for me! Chris

But Kevin was the first to point out on how to do it. Thanks a lot!

@ Carly, It sound like a video card problem, The first thing you should do is make sure you have the latest video card drivers installed, many times that will fix the problem.
