Speed Up Vista’s Start Menu Search

lightbulbpng Vista’s new Search box in the start menu is great way to find programs and files fast, but if you have a slower computer you may want to limit what gets searched to just your Programs, Control panel, Start menu items and Files, if your still getting a performance hit you may need to turn off file searching to. Here’s how.

  1. Right click on the Start Orb and select Properties.
  2. Click on the Customize button.
  3. Remove the check mark from Search Communications.
  4. (If needed) under Search Files, click Don’t search for files.
  5. Click OK twice.
